The West Hallam Scarecrow Trail is an annual event coinciding with West Hallam’s Well Dressing Week.  It is well established as a firm favourite in the village calendar and 2020 would have been it’s twelfth year.  It is organised by Pete and Jean Lilley, supported by a band of volunteers.

The event provides lots of fun and at the same time raises funds for good causes - the total amount raised in 2019 (our last ‘normal’ trail) was £475 which was donated to West Hallam Village Hall Charity, the West Hallam Trust and West Hallam Wells.

After a difficult year, the 2021 West Hallam Scarecrow Trail finally took place on September 18th.

As expected, there were fewer Scarecrows on display, but 41 groups and households contributed to what was a highly enjoyable Trail and the standard of scarecrow was extremely high. Footfall was lower as well, but £210 was raised and divided between The West Hallam Trust, West Hallam Village Hall Charity and West Hallam Wells.

After a tight vote, the winner was “Dumbo Circus” at 65 Scargill Road, with “There is no Planet B” a very worthy runner up at 250 Belper Road.
